Don Roberto Servitje Sendra, chairman of Mexican bakery firm Grupo Bimbo, will retire from his post in three months time, it has been revealed.

Announced at the firm’s annual general shareholders’ meeting earlier this month, Servitje Sendra will leave his position on 1 July and will be succeeded by the company’s chief executive Daniel Servitje.

At Grupo Bimbo, Servitje Sendra has taken up a number of roles, including general manager of several of its production plants in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City between 1956 and 1963, as well as deputy director, general director and chief executive.

He has been chairman of the board of directors since April 1994, and was one of the founders of Grupo Bimbo, as detailed on the company’s website.

In a statement, Daniel Servitje said: “Don Roberto is a visionary businessman whose values helped shape Grupo Bimbo and lead the organisation through its exponential growth in recent decades.
